With an expected driving range of around 200 miles (322 km), the all-electric SUV is gunning for Tesla.

Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the EQC, its first-ever fully-electric SUV and the first model to launch under the new EQ sub-brand. EQ stands for ‘Electric Intelligence,’ in case you were wondering.

Power comes form a dual-motor, 80-kWh battery drivetrain that provides 402 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque delivered to both axles, allowing the EQC to hit 60 mph from a stop in a sports car-like 4.9 seconds on route to an electronically limited top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). Drivers can also expect an estimated driving range of ‘up to’ 200 miles.

Judging my the performance specs, engineers presumably benchmarked the Tesla Model X 75D, which also has a 4.9-second zero-to-60 mph time; however, despite having a larger battery, the EQC falls short of the 75D’s 237-mile (381 km) driving range.

The German electric SUV can be recharged at leisurely pace with a standard 110-volt, but up to 80 percent capacity in only 40 minutes when using DC Fast Charging.

Visually, the EQC looks like a beefier, more substantial GLC with a bolder face, proving a more conventional aesthetic for those who finding the Tesla Model X’s minimalist styling off-putting.

Similarly, the “avant-garde electro-look” interior adopts Mercedes-Benz’s Mbux multimedia system with various EQ-optimized features, including a new navigation system that provides data on remaining battery range and shortest charging times.

Rosé-gold colors louvers in the air vents add a unique touch, while the metallic rib pattern that spans the entire dashboard and continues onto the doors are inspired by the ribs found on “high-quality music amplifiers.”

Production of the new, 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV begins in the first half of 2019 at at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. It will compete not only with the Tesla Model X, but also with the Audi e-tron.
